The authors say the book was born "out of curiosity", and I was also curious to order it, after I'd been to the Freetown wondering how life would be like within the walls of the houses. "Many of the dwellings, while appearing quite insignificant and modest from the outside, once inside contained wealth of imagination and creativity and an authenticity rarely encountered today, from the minimal wooden shack, to the hobbit-like structure, the colorful cabin, and the futuristic UFO."
The book is beautiful to look at, and I've found it rather amusing, too. In her tribute to Christiania, a local guide Anne Marie Helger writes:
"Most people are ecstatic about what they see out here, with the exception of pusher street. Even though it is exotic, it is hard to love. But not for aunt Hedvig from Kokær. When she heard the hashish dealers yelling about Red Afghan, Blue Maroc and Black Nepal, she excitedly said: 'How wonderful, they even sell vacation trips. There is just no end to all the wonderful things out here!'. Indeed.
FIN Kirjoitin juuri muutamasta suomalaisesta kesämökkikirjasta, ja jatkaakseni samasta aiheesta, Tami Christiansenin ja Karina Tenbergin Christiania interiør interior (Nyt Nordisk Forlag, 2011) on täynnä mökkejä kierrätysintoilijan mieleen.
Kirjoittajat sanovat, että kirja syntyi uteliaisuudesta, ja minäkin olin utelias tilaamaan sen oltuani vapaakaupungissa ja aprikoituani, millaista elämä olisi talojen seinien sisäpuolella. "Useat asumukset, jotka ovat melko vähäpätöisiä ja vaatimattomia ulkopuolelta, olivat sisältä nähtyinä täynnä mielikuvitusta ja luovuutta ja aitoutta, joita harvoin kohtaa nykyään, pienestä puutönöstä hobittimaiseen rakennelmaan ja värikkäästä asumuksesta futuristiseen UFO:on."
